I have been looking for a kayak for a very long time for some serious club fishing. As I fish in the bay I required a kayak which could handle the conditions, especially when the bay kicks up the usual afternoon lumpy waves. Also the kayak needed to be light so I could place it ontop of my Toyota Corolla with ease. Due to budget constraints I couldn’t afford a Hobie Kayak. If I could I would have purchased a tinny. I tossed up between the expensive models right through to the cheaper models. I have tested second hand models and new models alike. I have visited kayak shops and went to many a show. Now I have finally got the kayak which will suit my needs. The one I purchased is the Freak Torpedo. The torpedo kayak came with a really comfortable PRO Angler kayak seat, one piece fibreglass paddle, a paddle leash with compass and an adjustable centre mounted Scotty rod holder with the base. I purchased an anchor. On my first run out from Wellington Point, I launched at lunchtime. It was easy to get in and out of the kayak. It was a comfortable paddled out to the outer lead. Paddling was rather effortless and with the rudder system the kayak was easy to control. The Kayak went over the ocean runs with ease. I anchored and began fishing for a three hour session. I found the seat very comfortable. I didn’t get that horrid tired feeling along the legs and bottom I got from other kayak seats. The kayak was very stable as the fish started to come in. There was very limited roll while fighting the fish and I was confident that the kayak was not going to roll while landing the fish. Any water which came into the kayak was quickly expelled through the scuppers, so I was relatively dry throughout the session. The paddle holder works very well as does the Scotty rod holder which is perfect for this kayak. I am going to get a second rod holder. As I was fishing the only negative reared its head but one I already knew. The centre hatch is very difficult to use on a bumpy ocean, especially when the rod is in the rod holder. Once the ocean picked up it was useless to attempt entry into this compartment. I found it ideal to place the scupper plugs which I did not want to use on this trip. The kayak handled the following sea very well with the correct use of the rudder you can use the runs to your advantage. Also if you are lazy and the wind is blowing towards your destination, a golf umbrella makes for a perfect sail. All in all I am extremely happy with this Kayak and recommend it as an easy, comfortable fishing platform which will not break the bank.
Brilliant + Fantastic + Superb = lots of fun out on the water. We bought two Torpedo Kayaks. Each is a breeze to manoeuvre in the water (little bit of fiddling to get rudder sorted). These are just what we've been looking for - so very happy. Thanks to the team - you really provided excellent service.
Hi I have only purchase my kayak about a week ago have had it on the water about 4 times now .I live at Warwick about 5 min run to Leslie dam and two min from the river . Have found the Torpedo yak to be a great kayak easy to paddle and handle the dog likes it as well he either sits up the front or at the back of the kayak. Have found the customer service great my partner loves the yak as well we have no problems with loading it on to the car or 6*4 trailer with h frame . Regards Wes
Great kayak and great value for money. I've had my kayak since July now and have done around 15 trips and absolutely love it. Chose this over the assassin cause I wanted a bigger yak and believe it was a good decision (more versatility, storage, handles rough conditions easily and can fit the missus in the back if she wants to get out). I've even done a few camping trips and it has more than enough space for one or two nights. The only negative feedback I have is build quality is not high ie screws come lose (used nut lock), there is rusting after 6 months and the rudder cable broke (I replaced it pretty easily). And it is pretty heavy if you have to carry it over a longer distance. Overall this kayak really is great value for money and I would definitely buy it again knowing what I know now.
