Meet our latest field angler Jason Harrip

My name is Jason and I absolutely live and breathe kayak fishing. I now call Brisbane home and I am originally from the home of the Might Murray Cod, Mildura, Victoria. (I’m sure that line will draw some conjecture).

I spent my childhood on the banks of the Murray River drowning worms and having a blast with my mates. This style of fishing soon gave way to trolling large ʻstump jumper’ lures in the hope of snagging the magic metre green monster. Just for the record, I am yet to achieve this goal, my personal best is just over 80cm.

I spent several years living in Cairns and I enjoyed chasing JP, Barra and any other fish foolish enough to engulf my presentation.

I vividly remember the first time I fished from a kayak, I was amazed at the stealth like qualities, serenity and the areas that were now accessible to me as a fisherman. To me, the kayak is the ultimate fishing platform, everything else is a compromise.

I am drawn more toward freshwater fishing and I have recently welcomed a new addiction, BASS fishing. I am what would be regarded as a bass “newbie” and I have so much to learn about this fascinating creature but what I do know is this fish has incredible qualities and pound for pound must be considered one of the toughest fighters in the water.

I am humbled and excited to join the Freak Sports crew and I hope you enjoy sharing my experiences.

See you on the water and keep yakkin’

Jase
